The Morrigan is the major Goddess of war in Irish mythology and is one of the Tuatha De Danann (People of the Goddess Danu)...the Immortal Gods of the pre Christian Celtic people that inhabited Ireland before the coming of man. Her name signifies 'Great Queen' and she is a shape-shifter, her favourite form being that of a crow or raven.
The Sidhe (pronounced Shee) is a mound or hill, usually a tumulus/megalithic tomb and is the dwelling place of the De Danann after their defeat by man. The Gods became diminutive in size and were relegated into folk memory as faeries..the 'Aos Sidhe' the people of the mounds. It's were the popular Banshee originates 'Bean Sidhe' the woman of the mound.
The Morrigan is shown here in her diminutive form.
